RockCreek Church (Marysville, WA) is a vibrant community with a mission to help every person encounter God, discover freedom and purpose, and make a meaningful impact in the world. As the congregation grows and its ministries expand, the church decided to embark on a church capital campaign to renovate both of its campuses and better serve its community. The vision? Create safe, modern, and welcoming spaces, especially for RockCreek Kids, while upgrading audio, lighting, and video equipment in their auditoriums.
To accomplish their goals, RockCreek partnered with Abstract Union to create campaign materials. They wanted materials that felt fresh and meaningful, yet also conveyed their distinct campaign vision and aligned with their church brand. Our team worked with RockCreek to develop campaign materials that would resonate with both long-time members and new families, providing the momentum needed to bring their vision to life.
A successful capital campaign goes beyond fundraising goals; it involves crafting your church’s narrative and inviting the community to join the mission. RockCreek knew they wanted materials that fit seamlessly with their established brand guidelines while incorporating an innovative approach to the campaign. They envisioned a minimalistic, photography-based design style, one that highlighted the people directly impacted by the renovations. Abstract Union was tasked with transforming RockCreek's style and vision into a cohesive campaign. This entailed creating materials that were both engaging and reflective of the church's commitment to serving its community. Through continuous conversation and adherence to the church’s existing brand, we ensured that each piece resonated on a personal level with their diverse audience, including current members, local businesses and community members, and church staff.
In partnership with RockCreek, we established shared goals for the campaign materials. Our aim was to create designs that were not only visually attractive but also captured the excitement of upcoming changes. We sought to maintain brand consistency while introducing a sense of freshness and purpose unique to the campaign. Additionally, we wanted a design that would appeal to a wide range of donors, including long-standing members, new families, community leaders, and local businesses. With all of these goals in mind, we got to work.
Begin Scratching the Surface with a Campaign Logo
A campaign theme logo is a vital part of a capital campaign. In addition to being the first visual people see connected to your church’s vision, it also helps set the tone for the campaign and acts as a rallying point, encouraging collective involvement and pride in the campaign’s goals. We crafted a minimal yet impactful logo for RockCreek, placing “more” at the center with letters stacked in a square shape. Behind the letters, thin arrows extend outward, subtly conveying forward momentum; a fitting metaphor for RockCreek’s ongoing growth. The logo’s bold lines and clean, striking font gave it a modern feel and ensuring it is easily recognizable.

Add Another Layer to Your Capital Campaign with a Booklet and Brochure
A campaign initiative is a complex and detailed vision often comprised of many components, each requiring their own explanation to understand the campaign in full. A case statement booklet is an excellent tool for communicating your church’s vision to potential donors. When designing RockCreek’s booklet, we created a strategic layout design that accommodated both critical campaign details and renderings proposed changes. We added a tan to the color palette, giving the materials a warmer feel and complementing existing brand colors. We abstracted the church’s main logo into angular organic shapes and used them throughout, creating a unique design that seamlessly aligned with the church’s primary brand and fostered instant recognition.

Because a campaign initiative has numerous components, it can take some time to finalize the details. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t begin generating excitement about the upcoming changes and meeting with possible donors. A trifold brochure is a great tool for initial and effective communication. We designed an eye-catching brochure with bold, brand-aligned sans serif fonts and strategic negative space, ensuring it was both easy to read and visually appealing. This was crucial for capturing attention while maintaining brand consistency. We incorporated the subtle arrows and diagonal lines, echoing the logo and the vision for the campaign. We included spaces for donors to outline out their giving plan and listed various ways to contribute to the cause.

Uncover a Donor’s Intent with a Pledge Card
Once church members grasp the purpose and benefits of your initiative, they’ll be prepared to create a giving plan and contribute with confidence. A pledge card is an integral part of any capital campaign, serving as a bridge where donors can visualize how their contributions can grow over the campaign’s duration. It also helps churches track their progress towards their goals. The pledge card features a color-blocked design that is both visually appealing and highly functional. Each section is thoughtfully separated by a distinct color, drawing attention to key details and guiding donors to complete the card with ease and accuracy.

Expand Your Reach with Large Banners
Sunday services provide a direct platform to communicate your church’s initiatives, but they’re not the only opportunity to engage your community. Many churches host banquets or set up booths at conferences, community events, and other gatherings. To make the most of these moments, you need tools that leave a lasting impression. Background display banners are a versatile and impactful choice. These portable backdrops create a polished setting for campaign events, inviting meaningful conversations about your church’s projects. Their large size not only draws attention but also provides an ideal space to display capital campaign materials and share additional information about your initiative.
